Danil Osipchuk has created a new version of the CurlPlugin. This is a plugin that wraps the libcurl library, a multiprotocol file transfer library.
Danil is now looking for people interested in testing his plugin. For this plugin there’s also a bounty offered by Avi Bryant.

Using Squeak on the Nokia 770
The Nokia 770 is a Linux-based, wi-fi capable “Internet tablet” whose success was even greater than what Nokia anticipated. Now Aaron Reichow is trying to run Squeak on it, and has posted a couple of messages (here and here) detailing his experiences.
Could the 770 and Squeak combo become the first real implementation of the Dynabook?

Latest announcements in the Squeak world
Here’ a list of the latest announcements that appeared on the squeak-dev mailing list:
- John M McIntosh announced a new release of the mac Exupery VM. This release is up to date with the latest modifications to the VM necessary to run Exupery. Be warned though: this is still experimental software.
- Keith Hodges announced the availability of the first version of the FullText package, a port to Squeak 3.8 of Scott Crosby’s Full Text search engine.
Also, Simon Micheal announced the creation of http://planetjp.squeak.org/, a planet aggregator that aggregates the Japanese squeak blogs.

Squeak Foundation Board meeting notes – October 4th, 2006
Craig Latta posted the notes of the Squeak Foundation Board meeting that occured on October 4th. The Squeak Foundation Board meets twice a month via IM on the first and third wednesday, and Craig has been appointed to speak for the board.

The NewCompiler project
The NewCompiler project aims at developing a new compiler to take the place of the one currently in use in the Squeak image. This will bring many advantages: a better integration with the Refactoring Browser subsystem; a cleaner internal structure with better maintainability, and “real” closures that will make the #fixTemps workaround unnecessary.
